Praça da Estrela1200-667 Lisboa
Inaugurated in 1788, this single nave church and Latin cross plan is a brilliant example of late baroque. The facade is crowned by a triangular pediment, framed by two clock and bell towers and decorated with monumental statues. Inside the high altar stands out , as well as the canvas of Pompeo Battoni “The Supper” and the sculpture group of the Eucharist by Machado de Castro (also the author of the exterior statues). The Estrela Basilica it is also the pantheon of Queen Mary I, the single monarch of the Braganza dynasty that is not buried in the Monastery of São Vicente de For a. Opposite to the Basilica are the romantic Estrela Gardens.
