Designer, watercolorist, illustrator, ceramist and teacher, Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro is one of the most influential personalities in 19th-century Portuguese culture. Remarkably prolific in the field of satirical cartoons and caricature, his work also included creative ceramics, using his Faience Factory in Caldas da Rainha to produce a vast collection of pots, centerpieces, jugs, plates, tiles, panels and various decorative pieces, namely large animals.
His depictions of folk figures such as Zé Povinho and the swallow - a true Portuguese icon - are widely celebrated. He exhibited his works in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo (Brazil) and won gold medals in several international exhibitions (Madrid, Antwerp, Paris and St. Louis, USA).
This store offers Arte Bordallo replicas and special collections, as well as more contemporary designs such as jugs, cheese keepers, boxes, and tableware sets.
