Rua da Alfândega, 112 -1141100-187 Lisboa
Located in downtown Lisbon, near Praça do Comércio, this church stands on the site of the ancient Church of Misericórdia, which was the second largest Manueline temple in Lisbon, after the Monastery of Jerónimos in Belém. The construction was ordered by King D. Manuel I, completed in 1534, and was built as the seat of the city’s Charities. When the temple was destroyed by the 1755 earthquake, the rescued elements were incorporated into the new building that became known as the Old Conception and was rebuilt with a Manueline facade. Especial attention to the two windows, a bas-relief of Our Lady of Mercy and the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament.
